How Dexter launched a productized webflow studio with Puzzl
A case study with Crafted Essentials

Crafted Essentials is a spin-off studio of Crafted Studios. It’s productized model aims to serve small businesses and pre-seed companies that need a website at a more affordable rate.
We sat down with Dexter Washington, founder at Crafted Essentials, to learn how the studio powered their new productized business. We discuss:
- Minimizing touch points to convert more leads into clients
- Freeing up valuable time for his project manager to work on more pressing things
- Why Dexter doesn’t hesitate to recommend Puzzl to every professional service business
Crafted struggled with bloated tool stack that made it difficult to manage projects on a daily basis.
Dexter found that no simple PM tools out there were made specifically for professional service businesses. So, he resorted to using a bunch of general tools to achieve this customizability.
- Other workflow software made things too complex for something as necessary as onboarding
- These multiple tools also took a toll on streamlining communications across the team
Streamline through 3 fronts:
When Crafted decided to launch their productized arm, they knew that their existing tool stack wouldn’t suffice.
In early 2023, Dexter embedded Puzzl’s productized plug-in into his website. He saw that Puzzl made launching a productized service extremely fast and easy, so he could focus on growing the business.
1. Embedding is as easy as copy+paste
Embedding Puzzl into Crafted Essentials only took a matter of a few minutes. Dexter simply created a new service, where he input the title, description, frequency, amount, and features. Then he published the service and embedded it into his site by copying and pasting the link behind a button.
Clients came to the site where they input their name, email, comments, and their payment information via Stripe! This is as low touchpoint as a business can get!
💪🏻 Dexter and the team were allowed to focus on their strength: website designing, while Puzzl took care of the rest.
2. Inquiry management built in
One of Dexter’s favorite functions of Puzzl’s productized plug-in is that the client is not charged as soon as they checkout. Instead, their inquiry shows up in Puzzl. There, he can review the inquires, check if he has the capacity for it, and either accept or reject it. If rejected, the client does not get charged, and they auto receive an email. If accepted, the client gets charged, a portal is created, and the client is auto invited.
Dexter doesn’t have to deal with immediate charging and possible refunds, or spend time setting up portals and sending onboarding emails.
⌛ Puzzl helps Crafted Studios focus nearly all their time and resources towards project and business growth!
3. Finishing projects on time
Part of the reason that Dexter was able to offer a more affordable service was because of its timeline and features. It’s imperative that Dexter finish the project in the time allotted per service, and that the scope is strictly what’s included in the package. There’s no room for scope creep or late projects when running a productized business.
Using Puzzl, Crafted was able to ensure their kickoff period was as short as possible and clients were easily able to view deliverables and give feedback and requests. Once the project was completed, Crafted immediately charged the client the remaining amount.
✈️ Puzzl helped Crafted Studios move efficiently without losing focus on client needs.
